ARREST REPORTS

A Crestview woman is charged in connection with the theft of more than $45,000 in rings stolen from her place of employment.

A manager at the Kay Jewelers at Santa Rosa Mall in Mary Esther discovered ten rings missing and contacted the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies found three of the rings had been pawned at local pawn shops and traced them to 19-year old Erica Heinz, a seasonal worker at the jewelry store. Heinz admitted she’d taken the merchandise to pawn in order to pay off bills.

She was arrested Thursday on charges of grand theft over $20,000 and false owner of pawned items.

In a separate case, the OCSO charged a man with stealing a ring valued at nearly $1200.00 from the Kay Jewelers at Destin Commons yesterday.

James Ovalle asked to see the ring but then switched it with one of similar style hidden in his hand, placing the other ring in his shoe. When OCSO deputies made contact with him at the store he agreed to a search. The stolen ring and its tags were in plain view sticking out of his shoe. He then tried to resist being handcuffed. Ovalle is charged with grand theft and resisting arrest.
