A shooting victim declined to press charges against a suspect in his case today, but the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested the Fort Walton Beach man on other weapons related offenses.
18- year old Dion’te Wingate was struck in the head by a bullet during an altercation at a car wash this afternoon at 490 Mary Esther Boulevard, but amazingly he suffered only a minor injury that required stitches.
Wingate was treated at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and released.
The OCSO had responded to Professional Car Wash after receiving multiple calls about shots fired around 12:15 p.m.
Wingate initially ran from the scene, but soon returned and was transported to the hospital for treatment of his head wound.
The suspect, 23-year old Tory Banks, was located and taken into custody.
The exact motive for the altercation has not yet been determined, although investigators say Banks and Wingate are known to each other.
Wingate declined to file charges against Banks, however the OCSO arrested Banks for discharging a firearm during the commission of a felony and carrying a concealed weapon.
