The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, acting upon a tip, has arrested a felony fugitive for an incident that occurred yesterday on Mare Creek Road. 39-year old Ronald Wayne Allen was arrested today and charged with Assault with Intent to Commit a Felony, Weapons Offense Firing into a Vehicle, Possession of Weapon or Ammo by Convicted Felon, Felony Criminal Mischief More than $1,000, Resisting Officer without Violence, and Possession of Marijuana Less Than 20 Grams.

The victim in the case reported that he was operating a bulldozer on property on Mare Creek Road yesterday when the defendant walked toward him making a cut throat sign with his hand. The victim stopped the work and turned off the bulldozer and the defendant told the victim to stop working or he would “sic his boys” on the victim. The victim returned to work and watched the defendant walk into the woods. Approximately five minutes later, the defendant exited the woods, shouldered a shotgun, aimed it at him, and opened fire shooting a total of three rounds at the victim and the bulldozer. The victim ducked and heard the buckshot hitting the metal on the bulldozer. The victim was in fear and took cover. The defendant fled the scene on foot. The victim was able to later positively identify the defendant as the male who shot at him.

Investigating deputies recovered shell casings and saw at least 15 impact locations on the bulldozer consistent with it being struck by buckshot style projectiles. The estimated damage to the brand new bulldozer was $10,000 – $15,000. The defendant was a convicted felon and was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. An alert deputy saw a male who matched the description in the area of the Dollar General Store on US 90 near Hwy 393. As he made contact with the suspect and obtained his identification, the male threw down a baggy of marijuana and fled the scene on foot. An exhaustive search did not locate the suspect who actively fled and his from deputies.

This morning, a citizen alerted deputies to the possible location of the defendant at a residence on Fawn Lake Road. Deputies investigated and located the defendant there and served the arrest warrant. While there, they located a weapon and ballistic evidence consistent with what was found at the original scene. The defendant was delivered to the Okaloosa County Jail where he was booked and held without bond.
