A two-year old Fort Walton Beach boy remains in critical condition following a near drowning Monday evening near the Marler Bridge in Destin. Jayden Cartagena of 20 Moriarity Street was pulled from the water on the bridge’s western end, near where bridge pilings start to enter the water to the north of the parking area.
A 29-year old Fort Walton Beach man helped bring the child ashore and began performing CPR. Family members say Jayden had been playing near the water and they realized a few moments later he was missing. He was located floating in two feet of water around 5 p.m.
Jayden was initially transported to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center before being taken by medical helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
