A verbal altercation outside an Okaloosa Island nightspot turned violent early this morning when a man pulled out a handgun and fired shots at two people, hitting a female in the leg. Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to The Red Rose on Okaloosa Island around 4:40 a.m. A patron said he and a female had walked outside to smoke in the parking lot when they were approached by a black male who appeared to be in his mid-twenties. He says the man began saying vulgar things to the female. The situation escalated. He told OCSO deputies the man then pulled out a handgun and began shooting. The female suffered a non-life-threatening bullet wound to her leg and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No one else was injured. Investigators were told the shooter fled in a car towards Highway 98.
