Quick action by Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Patrol deputies led to the capture of a murder suspect in Destin early this morning within minutes of the crime. Deputies were called to Lucky’s Rotten Apple at 205 Mountain Drive before one a.m. in reference to a stabbing. The victim, a 36-year old Destin resident, was found in the parking lot outside the nightspot with a deep laceration to the neck. A deputy attempted life-saving measures while also putting out a description of the suspect. Minutes later, another deputy spotted a man matching that description on Highway 98 near the Village Inn. The suspect ran, but arriving deputies were able to take him into custody. A knife was found in his possession. The victim died of his injuries at the scene. 41-year old Jerrish Stephens of St. Petersburg Florida is now charged with murder. OCSO Investigators believe the violence began with a fight between two females that started inside the nightspot and spilled outdoors, and ultimately led to the encounter between the victim and Stephens. Sheriff Eric Aden praised the quick and thorough work of dispatchers and deputies. https://youtu.be/vskB5wmj6IE The investigation is continuing.
