If you live anywhere near a school – don’t be surprised if you hear a tone and message coming over loudspeakers tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. That’s when the first official test of the new Okaloosa County Mass Notification System will take place!
Okaloosa County, in conjunction with the Okaloosa School District, is sending out the test message through new speaker arrays located on every school campus.
These speakers will typically reach out clearly up to half a mile and the tone can often be heard for several miles – so don’t be caught off guard. It will only be a test and again – it’s scheduled for June 23rd at 9 a.m. at schools around the County.
The Emergency Operations Center in Niceville and the Okaloosa School District have the ability to activate the new public safety notification system.
It can be used as a vital, potentially life-saving early warning system for school, weather, and other emergencies.
