FONTENOT ARREST REPORT

A Crestview burglary suspect’s luck ran out today when an observant off-duty Sergeant with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office spotted him driving a car linked to some local break-ins, including one where he entered a Laurel Hill home while a nine-year old boy was there alone.

OCSO deputies, with the assistance of Covington County Alabama authorities, were able to develop 40 year old William Fontenot as a suspect in a break-in where cash was stolen from a home on Steel Mill Creek Road February 19th. Home surveillance video revealed the suspect’s car was a green Nissan Titan with a Florida license plate starting with “GW”.

The child who had been at the house picked Fontenot out of a photographic line-up February 21st and warrants were issued for Fontenot in that case.

Today an off-duty Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant spotted Fontenot operating the Nissan Titan in the area of Stillwell Boulevard in Crestview. Sgt. Health Hehl followed Fontenot until he stopped at an address on Patch Avenue, where Fontenot got out of the vehicle and went into a shed. OCSO Patrol deputies quickly arrived and took him into custody without incident on charges of burglary and grand theft. The vehicle Fontenot was operating is believed to contain evidence of additional residential burglaries. It has been towed, pending the request of a search warrant.

Fontenot is also charged in connection with the theft of tools from a shed on Old Bethel Road earlier this month.
