The victim of Thursday’s apparent drowning in Destin has been identified as 44-year old Ian Johnson of Minnesota. Johnson was pulled from the Gulf of Mexico yesterday after apparently becoming distressed while swimming with one of his children behind the Pelican Beach Resort. Deputies were called to the beach at 1002 East Highway 98 around 3:20 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Lifeguards were performing CPR on Johnson, who had been pulled unconscious from the water. He was later pronounced dead at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
