The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s office is investigating multiple car thefts this week that all involved keys left inside the vehicles.

A white Chevy Suburban was taken September 12th from a home on Solimar Way in Mary Esther.

The owner says the keys were either in the ignition or in her purse that was left in the vehicle. The purse also contained her driver’s license and other miscellaneous papers. She estimates her losses at more than $9000.

The owner of a grey Chevy Cruz last saw her car in her driveway around 9 p.m. September 12th. She says the keys were left in the unlocked vehicle at her home on Tray Drive. The car was later found abandoned near the intersection of Shirley Drive and Tilden Street.

The third stolen car had a broken key stuck in its ignition. The owner of the black Nissan Xterra says he noticed it missing from the driveway of his home on Marimba Street near Fort Walton Beach around 7 a.m. September 13th. He says two paddleboards had been strapped to the roof and his MacBook Pro laptop had been left inside. He estimated his losses at $8600.
