Students at Elliott Point Elementary in Fort Walton Beach brought in coins to raise more than $700 to “SOCK IT TO CHILDHOOD CANCER”.
Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer Deputy Jason Folley decided to help motivate youngsters by pledging to shave his hair into a Mohawk.
He not only had his head shaved in front of the class that raised the most money, he let staff members spray paint it gold, the symbolic color for fighting childhood cancer.
Elliott Point Elementary School teacher Laurie Feldman says Deputy Folley and the students were simply amazing. Her son David, a student at Meigs Elementary School, is has been in remission from cancer for three years now. Feldman says only about four percent of money raised for cancer research goes towards childhood cancers. The money raised will be donated to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a childhood cancer charity which funds research to help find cures for kids with cancer.
