Destin Hit and Run Suspect 2 April 2015

A traffic crash near 733 Harbor Boulevard (Highway 98) in Destin Monday led to a broken telephone pole and a leak in a Destin Water User’s water main. It happened after a truck heading eastbound hit another car, causing the car to strike the pole and then overturn in the roadway. The driver was treated at Emerald Coast Sacred Heart Hosopital and released. Meantime eastbound lanes were closed at that location for repair work from the time of the accident around 6 p.m. until 3:45 Tuesday morning

While a Destin Water User’s utility worker was on the scene to fix the water main leak, his truck was stolen around 11:30 Monday night. It was then involved in a traffic crash in the eastbound lanes of Highway 98 in front of Emerald Towers condominium. Witnesses say it had been traveling at a very high rate of speed and struck a Honda Prelude in the rear. The utility truck overturned and both vehicles came to rest on the south side of Highway 98. The driver of the stolen truck ran from the scene. The driver of the Honda was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola for a severe facial cut. A female passenger was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and deputies say the individual pictured below had been seen walking in the roadway prior to the accident. It’s believed he could have information on the stolen truck and subsequent crash. The OCSO is trying to identify and locate the man to talk to him.
