Stolen Guns and Unlocked Cars

Since June 26th, more than a half dozen firearms have been stolen from unlocked cars in Okaloosa County and the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents and citizens alike to avoid leaving a weapon in an unlocked car.

The agency issued a news release last year on the problem after 71 guns were reported stolen between August 2014 and August 2015 alone, the vast majority from cars that had been left unlocked. In fact about ninety percent of the OCSO’s reported car burglaries during that time frame were to vehicles that were unsecured.

Sheriff Larry Ashley addressed the issue of easily stolen guns last year as well.
