A Mary Esther woman came home Sunday to find a man running out of her house with some of her property, including two handguns. At some point, the thief dropped the stolen goods. Responding units from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office set up a perimeter and brought in K-9 units to start a track. During the search, a deputy who made contact with a citizen noticed the man had numerous scratches on him consistent with running through brush. An eyewitness brought to the scene identified the individual as the suspect. Deputies were able to locate property stolen from at least three separate area burglaries, including three firearms. Charges against 27-year old Jeremy Wayne Nichols of 713 Creekwood Drive in Mary Esther include burglary, grand theft, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, petty theft, and criminal mischief.
