The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and North Okaloosa Fire Department rescued four adults and three children last night after the group became stranded for several hours while tubing down the Shoal River from Highway 90 in Crestview.

Deputies say the boating trip apparently took longer than the family had expected and they became stranded in the dark. In addition, the three children, ages four, five, and seven, were not wearing shoes and the family was unable to navigate the thick woods to walk out.

The OCSO and NOFD responded with boats. Property owners on Sowell Road allowed the units to use their ramp to access the family, who were located and taken to safety around ten p.m.
