The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office wants to alert residents and visitors to a rash of “smash and grab” car burglaries taking place in the county.
At least fifteen cases have been reported since March 5th, with the latest taking place last night at the Kmart parking lot on Irwin Avenue while the owners dined at a nearby restaurant. They came out of the restaurant around 7:30 p.m. and found the rear window behind the driver’s door had been smashed, and a Coach purse was missing.
Smash and grab car burglaries have been reported in Holt, Destin, Fort Walton Beach, and Niceville. Numerous purses along with jewelry, tools, and a handgun are among the items taken. Do not leave valuables in your car at any time.
