Shawn Chaplin

ARREST REPORT

A Niceville man who attempted to steal a truck at knife-point is charged with five felonies after being captured last night by Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies and an OCSO K9.
39-year old Shawn Clifford Chaplin of Hampton Circle is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery on a law enforcement officer, armed burglary, grand theft of a motor vehicle, armed robbery, and resisting arrest.
Deputies and Niceville Police Officers responded to a call for an armed disturbance outside a restaurant at 117 John Sims Parkway around 7 p.m. Monday.
A man says Chaplin had demanded his keys and tried to hit him with what turned out to be a hunting knife.
Chaplin then ran into a nearby unlocked truck, said he had a gun, and refused to come out. As deputies attempted to talk him out of the truck, Chaplin would periodically open the door. During one of those occasions, an OCSO K9 was released to apprehend him and get him under control.
Following his capture, Chaplin later spit on a deputy and also kicked him in the leg while at Twin Cities Hospital for a medical check.
No firearm was found, but deputies confiscated a hunting knife with a five inch blade.
