An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy tracked down a Fort Walton Beach burglar who thought he’d gotten away with stealing a .40 caliber Glock firearm from inside a safe. 31-year old John Jackson Lynn of 1 Doe Lane is charged with burglary to a structure and grand theft of a firearm.

An off-duty Tallahasse law enforcement officer staying at an Okaloosa Island hotel at 573 Santa Rosa Boulevard reported yesterday he had to call management because of having trouble getting into the safe in his room. Management was able to open the safe with an administrative code, but the man’s $600 handgun was missing.

A deputy checked various hotel logs and card readers and was able to determine that Lynn, a recently hired maintenance employee, had gone into the room unattended. During questioning Lynn admitted taking the firearm and putting it in his car. When he went home he put the gun in his closet, planning to keep it. The gun is back in the hands of the rightful owner.
