BROWN ARREST REPORT
A man who ran away after deputies responded to a fight outside a Destin nightspot then tried to escape by swimming across Destin Harbor, but it didn’t work.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has charged 27-year old Stephen Brown of Greenbriar, Tennessee with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and affray.
Deputies were called to Coyote Ugly at 100 Harbor Boulevard around 2:30 a.m. Saturday for a fight in progress involving six people. Everyone scattered when they arrived.
They say Brown jumped into Destin Harbor and began hiding under the docks and surrounding boats. He then swam across the harbor to Norriego Point. A deputy who chased Brown into a parking garage at a condo complex says Brown put him in a bear hug to avoid being taken into custody. Brown was ultimately handcuffed. The deputy was not seriously injured.
Brown’s brother, 24-year old Joshua Alexander of Niceville, was also charged with affray in connection with the fight.
