A former Shalimar area tennis coach on the run from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office since 2007 has finally been tracked down and is behind bars awaiting extradition.

70-year old Mark Burns has OCSO warrants for unlawful sexual activity with a minor and more.

Burns was taken into custody October 27th by the US Marshals with the Massachusetts Fugitive Task Force after US Marshals with the Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force submitted a tip.

He was found working in a deli with the 12 Tribes Cult in Plymouth Massachusetts. Burns is currently held in Plymouth County Massachusetts awaiting extradition.

Burns is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year old female between March 2006 and March 2007.

He admitted the relationship to the girl’s mother in March 2007, saying he wanted to marry her. She immediately contacted law enforcement.

When investigators with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office went to Burns’ home on 7th Avenue March 15th 2007, he was already gone and had been on the run ever since.

Although his location remained unknown all that time, the effort to find him did not stop.
