The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer Unit was honored today as one of the top programs in the country. The National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) named the OCSO SRO Unit a “Model Agency” for exemplifying the highest levels of providing security, education, counseling and mentoring to students.

“It was an extremely proud moment for our entire agency today at the NASRO Annual Conference in Orlando,” said Sheriff Larry Ashley. “These deputies are responsible for such a diverse but critical mission. Their work schedule includes everything from monitoring gang activity to teaching the Teen Driver Safety Challenge to mentoring struggling youngsters. Their level of excellence is the reason they stand out. Sgt. Gary Venuti was named the state’s top SRO in 2012 and last year our deputies were awarded Florida’s SRO Unit of the Year. We want to also credit our outstanding partnership with parents, teachers, administrators, and the Okaloosa County School District for helping us achieve this level of success.”
