The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to take steps to protect their belongings. There have been more than 1000 residential and car burglaries in the OCSO’s jurisdiction since January 1st. The vast majority of car burglaries target unlocked cars.
The graphics below show a red pin for each car and residential break-in this year.
Simple preventative steps can be the difference between losing thousands of dollars of property and/or being the victim of identity theft if your purse or wallet is stolen with personal identification and credit cards inside.
1. Lock Your Car, Take Your Keys, and Hide Your Belongings to prevent car burglaries.
2. Sign up for ReportIt which allows you to keep a secure on-line record of valuable property, accessible from anywhere, for free. It’s a “proactive tool that allows you to easily catalog information about your valuables. This includes serial numbers, owner applied numbers, photos of property, and scans of receipts.
