Diversity Training

Deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office attended specialized training recently on diversity, inclusion, and the practical application of engaging diverse populations in partnerships and problem solving efforts.
The classes focused on “increasing awareness of the important and nuances of culturally responsive policing in building trust in marginalized communities.”
The training initiative by the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services was developed by the Project for Public Safety and Justice at the University of Illinois.
Members of the community also attended a portion of the training session with law enforcement officers. It was hosted at the Northwest Florida State College Public Safety Training Center in Niceville.
