In less than 12 hours Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office investigators were able to develop and track a suspect in the shooting death Wednesday of a Mary Esther man.
The suspect, 20-year old Kavari McQueen of Crestview, is currently being held in the Leon County Jail on an open count of murder.
Investigators say McQueen and the victim were in a vehicle together when they became involved in an altercation that led to gunshots shortly before 6 a.m.
The pair went out into the roadway. A short time later a passing motorist spotted the victim’s body on Taylor Road off Lake Silver Road north of Crestview.
Arriving OCSO deputies found the victim dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
McQueen, who had left the scene in the vehicle, was later developed as the suspect and was ultimately taken into custody Wednesday evening in Tallahassee around 5:30 p.m.
Investigators also executed a search warrant at a Crestview area home Wednesday evening in connection with the ongoing investigation.
Our sincere thanks to the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Tallahassee Police Department and FDLE for their assistance.
