Jonathan Grant
A Fort Walton Beach man is charged with hitting his wife and then grabbing and pushing a child under the age of twelve who stepped in to protect her.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has charged 35-year old Jonathan Richard Grant of 1860 Whispering Oaks Lane in Fort Walton Beach with battery, child abuse, and obstructing justice by tampering with a victim.
Deputies were called to Grant’s home after he and his wife got into a verbal argument that escalated. Grant is accused of pushing his wife to the ground, getting on top of her, and hitting her in the face and head with an open hand multiple times. She says Grant later agreed to leave the house, but then ripped out a phone line when she tried to call 9-1-1.
When a child ordered Grant to get out, Grant grabbed him and pushed him against the wall. Deputies say the wife suffered a busted lip and abrasions while the child had abrasions and red marks. Grant denied any physical altercation, saying the argument was only verbal.
