A Fort Walton Beach couple has been charged with cyberstalking in connection with a month long dispute with a neighbor.
Deputies arrested 28-year year old Mindy Barton Olds and 37-year old Nicholas Olds of 1818 Madelons Path on February 19th.
The 30 year old victim, who owns a home at 1817 Madelons Path, says between November 24 and December 17th 2015, the couple intentionally targeted her and potential renters visiting her home. Messages, including “Flood Zone 1817”, or the victim’s name and address, were written in spray paint and chalk on the roadway in front of or near the victim’s property. Signs were posted on the public right of way and the defendants’ property, specifically targeting the victim by including her numerical address and directing readers to Google the address on the internet. Approximately 18 videos were posted to YouTube, showing the couple was watching the home and/or waiting for someone to arrive.
Deputies say the pair was involved in the recording and in harassing at least one potential renter. The woman told deputies she decided not to lease the house after an encounter at the property with Nicholas and Mindy Olds. She says Nicholas Olds was recording her when she arrived and he and his wife were using chalk to write things that included the home’s address around the cul-de-sac. When she asked them to stop she said they told her they were never going to stop doing it.
The couple said the dispute began because the woman was speeding in the neighborhood and they were concerned about their children.
The victim and family members say they have made arrangements to sell the property in lieu of renting based upon the past harassment and not wanting to return to the property due to fear of future harassment.
