The OCSO Traffic Homicide Investigation Team is investigating a traffic crash which led to the death of a motorcyclist last night in Destin.
At around 11:51 p.m. on Thursday night, January 11, 2024, OCSO deputies responded to a crash involving a motorcycle and SUV at Highway 98 and Beach Dr. in the Destin city limits. A 29-year old Freeport man was traveling west on Highway 98 on a 2023 Indian Challenger motorcycle at a high rate of speed. A Honda SUV made a left hand turn onto Beach Dr. from eastbound Highway 98 into the path of the motorcycle, resulting in the motorcycle colliding with the SUV.
The motorcycle rider was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the SUV stopped immediately at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators. The motorcycle’s speed and drug and/or alcohol use are believed to be contributing factors in the crash. Traffic Homicide Investigators were able to obtain video of the crash from a nearby business and collected evidence from the scene.
The crash is still under investigation at this time.
