Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responding to assist at the scene of a fire near Crestview last night left with a suspect who had an active warrant for attempted murder.

The fire started on the second floor of a home at 3042 Quaser Road shortly before midnight. While at the scene, deputies made contact outside the house with one of the residents, 44-year old David Cornell. Cornell was then taken into custody on an active warrant for attempted murder stemming from shooting another man at that location in November.

After Cornell was taken into custody, deputies found eleven rocks of of suspected methamphetamine in one of his pockets. Cornell was then also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

OCSO Investigators say the warrant stems from a November 23rd shooting. A man at the Quaser Road home was shot in the back of the head during an argument with Cornell over an alleged theft by someone inside the house.

The victim had emergency surgery and survived, but says he remains in constant pain.
