A Crestview man wanted for violating probation on burglary charges was caught breaking into a car at a home on Aplin Road yesterday, but was willing to swim through a swamp to escape from an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy. The suspect now faces two additional felony charges in addition to his outstanding warrants.
A deputy was called to 2927 Aplin Road around 1:15 p.m. and found 24-year old James Lyn Dubiak sitting in the driver’s seat of a Chevrolet Impala parked in the driveway. Dubiak climbed out of the passenger side and began to walk away. The deputy noticed the car’s rear vent window was broken and tried to grab Dubiak’s arm, but Dubiak pulled away and fled. The deputy chased Dubiak through woods until Dubiak went into a swamp with a water depth of more than six feet.
A perimeter was set up and K9 members attempted a track, but Dubiak was not located. Dubiak has been featured on Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers in the past. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the OCSO at 850-651-7400 or Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 850-863-TIPS, emeraldcoastcrimestoppers.com, or by texting “TIP214 plus your message” to CRIMES (274637).
