The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office this afternoon arrested a Crestview High School student for possession of a firearm on school grounds.
The 15-year old was detained by the School Resource Officer after information was developed that he may be in possession of a handgun.
The gun was located in the student’s waistband. It was not loaded and no ammunition was found on the teen.
Deputies say there were no known threats towards the school or any individuals by the student, who said he had the weapon for self-protection.
