CENSUS WORKERS IN AREA

Just a reminder: The 2010 Decennial Census is just around the corner. Over the next four months, the U.S. Census Bureau will be conducting field operations in parts of Okaloosa County and across the rest of the country. Depending on the survey, the field representatives may carry a laptop or handheld computer bearing the insignia of the Census Bureau.

Once workers begin canvassing neighborhoods, it is typical for police departments and Sheriff's Offices to get calls about strangers on the streets.

The public should be aware that all employees, both temporary decennial staffers and permanent field representatives, can be identified through identification cards issued by the Census Bureau. Law enforcement agencies have been given samples of the cards to help verify employment. The Census Bureau says the workers will never ask for social security or bank information.

Anyone with questions or concerns can contact their local law enforcement agency.  For additional information you can also visit www.census.gov.
