PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT - TRAFFIC STOP
SAFETY
In light of recent events
involving someone posing as a law enforcement officer in an unmarked car in
Escambia County, the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office wants to remind drivers of
some safety tips.
Many agencies,
including the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, have several unmarked cars in
use. This includes some members of the Traffic Enforcement Unit. Most officers
conducting stops are in full uniform and all officers carry identification on
them also.
If you're unsure
that it is a police officer in an unmarked car stopping you, you should put on
your hazard lights, slow down, and continue to the next nearest public, well-lit
area to pull over. In the county's jurisdiction, you can also call 651-7400 or
689-5705 and dispatchers can confirm that a deputy is behind you since all
attempted traffic stops are reported to Communications.
