Three people are in custody
following an armed robbery Wednesday evening at Cash's Discount Liquors on
Harbor Boulevard in Destin.
A clerk
says a man armed with a gun came in and demanded money around 7:30 p.m.
He left with cash. The owner
of the business, Cash Moore, was arriving and started to follow the suspect, who
was trying to get to a dark-colored getaway car. At some point, the suspect
approached Moore's vehicle and fired into the driver's side window. Moore was
struck by broken glass but was not hit by any bullets.
As
deputies converged on the area, the suspect's car entered Twin Lakes Subdivision
in Destin. He was spotted leaving a short time later, driving a white pickup
truck with two female passengers. The suspect led lawmen on a chase through
parts of Destin. While crossing Okaloosa Island westbound he struck spikes
placed in the road by the Sheriff's Office. Despite flattened tires, he drove on
rims into the City of Fort Walton Beach. A
deputy struck the suspect's truck and forced him to a halt on Beal Parkway just
north of Highway 98. The truck was
quickly surrounded and all three people inside surrendered without incident. A
weapon and cash were recovered.
Deputies from
the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office were assisted in their efforts to apprehend
the suspects by the Fort Walton Beach Police Department and Florida Highway
Patrol.
The
suspects face various charges. Additional details will be released as they
become available.
