LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND FORMATION
Area police
chiefs and their representatives joined the Okaloosa County Sheriff today to
announce the formation of a new non-profit organization geared towards helping
any active, sworn, local law enforcement
officer in Okaloosa County facing a crisis.
Creation of The Okaloosa County Law Enforcement Benevolent Trust Association is
the result of the outpouring of financial donations and community support
towards the family of slain Deputy Tony Forgione in July. The new charity will
focus on being pro-active in raising money to provide assistance to officers in
need due to accidents, medical illnesses, fires, or other catastrophes.
Those involved are currently working on by-laws for the new association
and will be applying for 501-C3 status as a charitable organization. The
Association will be overseen by a Board of Directors. It is NOT connected to any
individual law enforcement agency.
The first major fundraiser, the Anthony Forgione Memorial Golf
Tournament, will take place November 8th
at the Shalimar Pointe Golf Course. Cuvee Beach in Destin will be providing food
at the event. For information on signing up or sponsorship, please contact
Debbie Barrineau at 651-7410.
