OCSO K-9 UNIT QUALIFIES IN NATIONAL CERTIFICATION TRIALS

           The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit recently joined approximately 55 other teams from across Florida, parts of Georgia, and portions of Alabama to take part in Region One Certification Trials in Escambia County.

          Deputy Jim Duval and K-9 “Tyson” took fifth place overall, with an individual fifth place in agility. They were also awarded “Case of the Quarter” in narcotics for an exceptional narcotics arrest. In addition, Deputy Duval and K-9 Tyson received recognition from the USPCA  for National Case of the Quarter, 2nd quarter 2007, and are in the running for National Case of the Year for 2007.

         Deputy Steve Weyer and K-9 “Septon” received an individual fourth place award in agility and were also awarded Case of the Quarter in patrol for an exceptional patrol apprehension award.

         Other members of the team include Sgt. Bob Dudley and K-9 “Ruger”, Deputy Ron Kimble and K-9 “Joker”, and Deputy Tim Patterson and K-9 “Flash”.

         Every member of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team qualified to take part in the National Certification Trials. The teams are evaluated in search work, apprehension, agility, and obedience.
