ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

Two Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputies captured a shot-gun wielding armed robbery suspect early Monday morning in Crestview.

24-year old Marcus Damien Canady, a convicted felon from Wisconsin , is charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a short-barreled shotgun, and grand theft.

He’s accused of using the shotgun to rob the Tom Thumb Store at 802 N. Ferdon Boulevard just before 4 a.m. The clerk was not injured in the hold-up.

Okaloosa Sheriff’s Deputy Randy Joiner and trainee Deputy Alton Teems began driving around the area to look for a suspect. They noticed Canady, who was driving a tan Buick Regal, acting suspicious, remaining stationary for long periods of time. When they stopped Canady’s car at the intersection of North Avenue and Mapoles Street , his driver’s license was invalid. A subsequent search of Canady and his car turned up large rolls of money, a jacket matching the one worn by the robbery suspect, and a loaded, 12-gauge “sawed off” shotgun.

Canady was transported to the Okaloosa County jail in Crestview.
