WALKING HOME  SAFETY TIPS

In response to the October 4th attempted abduction of a thirteen- year-old girl in Niceville, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children offer the following safety tips for kids:

·               Always take a friend when walking or riding your bike to school or to another location. Stay in well-lit areas and never take shortcuts.

·               If someone you don’t know or who makes you feel uncomfortable offers a ride – say No! Never accept a ride from anyone unless your parents tell you it is OK to do so.

·                If anyone follows you on foot, get away as quickly as possible. If they follow you in a vehicle, turn around, go in the other direction, and try to quickly get to a spot where a trusted adult can help. Tell a trusted adult what happened.

·                If anyone tries to take you somewhere, quickly get away and yell, “This person is trying to take me away”. If anyone tries to grab you, make a scene and every effort to get away by kicking, screaming, and resisting
