Sheriff Announces FDLE Analyst Academy Graduate

Sheriff Charlie Morris is proud to announce the graduation of Lauren B. Tomaschko from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Analyst Academy, Class IV, on June 9, 2005, in Tallahassee . Lauren is one of 27 law enforcement analysts from the state of Florida who has received her certification after completing the intense, six-month, 240-hour course.

Crime Intelligence Analyst Lauren Tomaschko has been employed with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office since 2003.  Prior to that, she attended Troy State University where she earned her Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration.  Lauren Tomaschko (pictured left) will join her co-worker and fellow analyst, Kathleen Wilson (pictured rignt), as both being certified in the State of Florida and also becoming the first law enforcement agency in Northwest Florida to have both of their crime intelligence analysts certified through the State of Florida .  Kathleen Wilson is a graduate of Class II of the Academy.   Currently, there are only five certified analysts in Northwest Florida and 96 total certified analysts statewide.

The curriculum of the Analyst Academy covers all of the various law enforcement analyst functions to include crime analysis, intelligence analysis, investigative analysis and management/statistical analysis. So far, 22 municipalities, 6 state agencies, and 27 Sheriff’s Offices throughout Florida have participated in the Academy.   The Academy is the first of its kind in the nation.

The war on terrorism and an overall increase in crime has revealed the need for a higher level of analysis with the primary function of identifying, predicting, and preventing criminal subjects, organizations, and activities. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement Analyst Academy provides a formalized program for analysts by providing enhanced training and knowledge of law enforcement analysis techniques. Certified law enforcement analysts are equipped with the specialized set of skills needed to successfully prevent crime and conduct complex investigations.
