A visitor to the Emerald Coast area is the victim of an apparent accidental drowning in the Gulf of Mexico this afternoon (Wednesday afternoon).

Arthur Joseph Wells, age 52 (10-19-1952), of Cheyenne, Wyoming, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast.

Wells was pulled from the water behind the Destin Gulfgate condominiums, 1180 Scenic Highway 98, Destin, and placed aboard a US Coast Guard boat. Coast Guard personnel initiated CPR while en route to the beach.

Wells' companions noted he did not seem to be in distress in the water. They began a search after he had not been seen for several minutes. He was found floating face-down approximately 75 yards from shore.
