Safety on the roads is always a major priority for the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety and Enforcement Unit. Starting today, August 17 thru September 12, the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Highway Patrol will host DUI checkpoints on heavily traveled corridors of US Highway 98. The Traffic Safety and Enforcement Unit is working with fellow law enforcement agencies to facilitate and promote community awareness on the 13th Anniversary of the "Hands Across the Border" traffic safety campaign. Law enforcement agencies in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia will join together during the Labor Day weekend to look for motorists who are not using their safety belts or driving while impaired. The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office strives to encourage residents and visitors to protect yourself and your loved ones by buckling up and to remind you if you "Drink and Drive. You Lose."
