More than 400 School Resource Officers from all parts of Florida will convene next week at Sandestin as Sheriff Charlie Morris and the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office host the Florida Association of School Resource Officers Annual Training Conference.
Lt. Don Fountain of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office is the association's president.
The School Resource Officers will be in the classroom the majority of their time during the week-long conference. Special classes are scheduled on topics including Legal Updates, School Bullies, Drugs, Gangs, Child Abuse, Internet Crime, Early Child Warning Signs, and other subjects.
Guest speakers scheduled include Congressman Jeff Miller, Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist, Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Interim Commissioner Daryl McLaughlin, and State Representative Gustavo Barreiro. Representative Barreiro, a Republican from Miami, chairs the House Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee, and is a member of the Education Committee K-20.
The FASRO Training Conference is the 24th annual for the organization. The conference begins Monday morning, July 28, at Sandestin.
