The Traffic Safety efforts of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office have earned national recognition.
Major Michael Coup and Corporal Randy Phillips accepted a First Place plaque on October 9 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office was named best in the nation among Sheriff's Offices when the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) awarded its "Chief's Challenge" plaques for outstanding traffic safety efforts by law enforcement agencies.
The Traffic Safety and Enforcement Unit of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office has also received state-level recognition for the past two years from the Florida Department of Transportation for its enforcement efforts and other programs to enhance safety on local roads. The Unit is active in many ways, including child seat inspections, presentations to community and civic groups, commercial fleet driver training, anti-theft programs, and public education.
