A Bank Robbery suspect is in custody, after citizens foiled his escape today (Wednesday). The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office was summoned to the SouthTrust Bank at 101 Mary Esther Boulevard at 11:13 this morning, where citizens had just tackled an apparent robber attempting to flee on a bicycle.

Deputies arrived at 11:15 and took custody of the suspect, identified as Lawrence Dean Campbell, age 43 (12-2-1957), of 671 Cornwall Terrace, Mary Esther.

According to witnesses, Campbell entered the bank, presented a holdup note to a teller, then walked out a with bank bag. A bank customer, Donald G. Plummer of Valparaiso, saw the robbery in progress from the drive-through window. Plummer drover around to the front of the bank, intercepted and tackled the suspect off of his bicycle in front of the bank. Two other citizens, Mark Crane of Niceville and Bobby Wright of DeFuniak Springs, helped detain the suspect. The money bag was recovered, unopened, at the scene.

No injuries were reported in the incident, and no weapons were involved.
