The Traffic Safety and Enforcement Unit of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office initiates its spring and summer Safety Campaign this weekend. On Saturday evening (March 3), traffic Deputies, augmented by part-time Deputies, will be involved in a concentrated detail focusing on Impaired and Aggressive Drivers in south Okaloosa County. Seat Belt and Child Restraint violations are also among the priorities for the operation.

The 20-mile long Highway 98 corridor through Okaloosa County will be targeted for enhanced traffic enforcement Saturday evening and in the early hours of Sunday morning. The detail may also move to other priority areas as justified by reports from law enforcement officers and citizens.

Citizens observing aggressive or reckless driving, or other threats to public safety on the roads of Okaloosa County should contact the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office at 651-7400. Cellular telephone users have toll-free options that are preferable to 9-1-1 for this purpose: Alltel subscribers may call *SO and Cellular-One customers may call #OCSO.

The Spring Break season begins this weekend, with activity likely to increase during the next three weeks. The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office will be involved in many special operations throughout the spring and summer season. Some of the operations will include DUI checkpoints, and the use of confidential underage buyers at locations where alcohol and tobacco are sold.
