Murder suspect Lonnie Josh Smith is back in Okaloosa County. Two Okaloosa Deputies arrived at the Okaloosa County Jail in Crestview with Smith last evening (Wednesday evening) from Kentucky, where Smith had been held since his capture last week.
Smith, age 42 (12-18-58), of Crestview, is accused of the knifing death of Grover Gerald Long in the parking lot of a Crestview lounge during an argument in the early morning hours of August 4. He had been actively sought by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Warrants Unit, which enlisted the aid of several federal, state, and local agencies in investigating possible locations for Smith in Okaloosa County, elsewhere in Florida, and in other southeastern states.
A confidential tip, aided by information obtained from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's web page (www.sheriff-okaloosa.org) led authorities in Marshall County, Kentucky to Smith's whereabouts on August 29.
