McGruff the Crime Dog, the popular new PT Cruiser "SAVE-Mobile,"and free child safety seat inspections will all be available this Saturday (July 14). The event will be held at the Lee Chrysler automobile dealership on Mary Esther Cutoff from 11:00 until 2:00 on Saturday.

Florida's Child Restraint law requires youngsters less than six years of age to be properly restrained at all times while traveling in a car. Studies have shown that while most parents do use child safety seats, the seats are often improperly adjusted and secured. Specially-trained personnel of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office will be on hand to inspect child seats and instruct parents and drivers in their proper installation.

The PT Cruiser "SAVE-Mobile" is a fully-equipped law enforcement patrol vehicle specially marked to publicize the Substance Abuse and Violence Education program conducted by the Sheriff's School Resource Officers. It was purchased with assets seized from drug dealers in Okaloosa County, and is featured in parades and promotional appearances.

The event is a co-ordinated effort of the Youth Services Division and the Traffic Safety and Enforcement Unit of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
