Okaloosa County Sheriff Charlie Morris has returned from the Florida Sheriff's Association Mid-winter Conference with two honors: a position on the Association's Board of Directors and the prestigious "Grand Star Award" from the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches.
The "Grand Star Award" plaque, which will be on display in the lobby of the Sheriff's Administration Office on Shalimar, recognizes cumulative support of the Youth Ranches by Sheriff Morris and his employees exceeding $100,000. More than 50 Okaloosa Sheriff's employees are enrolled in a payroll-deduction program to support the Ranches, and charity golf tournament sponsored by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Posse is a major annual fund raiser for the Ranches. Only two of the awards were presented at the conference.
At the same conference, Sheriff Morris was elected to a two-year term on the
Florida Sheriff's Association Board of Directors. He is one of the three Sheriffs
representing the 16 counties in the Association's District One. A total of 12 Sheriffs
comprise the board.
