Okaloosa County Sheriff Charlie Morris has recognized Deputy Roberta Adams, and Crime Scene Technicians Tori Moore and Renee Calvert as his Employees of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2002.
Deputy Adams has been with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office 19 months, and is described by her supervisor as "always seeking to better herself as a law enforcement professional... always methodical in her approach." She responded to more than 450 calls during the first quarter of the year, and was responsible for the arrest of a suspect in several burglaries, and the arrest of a suspected car thief. She is also credited by her supervisor with enabling the safe release of an endangered infant by patiently "talking down" an irrational, substance-abusing mother.
Moore and Calvert were nominated by their supervisor who used terms including "Dependability," "enthusiasm," and a "can-do attitude" to describe both. Moore and Calvert share 24-hour on-call duties to process major crime scenes.
One of the crime scenes recently processed by Moore involved a report of a shooting and attempted carjacking in Destin. Her thorough examination of the scene was instrumental in disproving the alleged victim's version of events. The victim was ultimately arrested and charged with filing a false police report.
Calvert was cited for "careful and meticulous" work that supported the victim's version of events at a near-fatal stabbing incident, and for similar work at a complex death scene that helped rule out foul play; the case was ruled a suicide.
