The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office will conduct a Traffic Safety Checkpoint on Okaloosa Island during the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend, which traditionally marks the start of the busy summer season along the Emerald Coast.
The checkpoint will focus on westbound US Highway 98, a short distance east of the Okaloosa Island Conference Center, beginning in the late evening of Friday, May 23, and continuing into the early morning hours of Saturday, May 24.
The operation will involve only very brief delays for most motorists. Deputies at the checkpoint will be alert for impaired drivers, major equipment problems, child restraint violations, and other serious threats to public safety on the roads.
During the checkpoint conducted by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, Florida Highway Patrol Troopers will be engaged in DUI patrol near the checkpoint area.
The Traffic Safety Checkpoint and the "Click it or Ticket" seat belt enforcement campaign from May 19 until June 1 are integral parts of Sheriff Charlie Morris' wide-ranging commitment to safety on the roadways of Okaloosa County.
