Thanks to an anonymous tip through Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers, a man who was captured by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office after a brief pursuit last week has been re-arrested under his real name. Bobby Joe Maner, Jr., age 32 (8-24-68), was taken into custody at a residence in the Ocean City area, shortly after bonding out of the Okaloosa County Jail yesterday afternoon (Thursday afternoon).

Maner had been in jail since the evening of December 27 under the name "Michael Jackson Maner" on charges of Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Driving, and Resisting Arrest Without Violence.

Prompted by the Crime Stoppers tip, the Fugitive Warrants Unit of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office learned Maner, wanted in Alabama, had used his brother's name at the time of his arrest.  In addition, other jurisdictions in Alabama hold outstanding Violation of Probation and Traffic-related charges.

Deputy Keith Snow of the Sheriff's Community Policing Unit attempted a traffic stop two days after Christmas after observing a car traveling approximately 50 miles per hour in a residential area. The driver attempted to elude marked patrol vehicles, then leaped from the moving vehicle in an apparent attempt to escape on foot. In the process, Maner darted in front of Deputy Snow's patrol car, was struck and dragged under the car a short distance, as Maner's driverless car was involved in a collision with a second patrol car in the vicinity of Yancey Street and Ferguson Drive.
